I pulled up at the base of the Mountain Express yesterday morning at 8:50 a.m. and found these two young gentlemen waiting, with as much patience as they could muster, for their first ride to the top. Perhaps it was because it was hovering around -10° F. that I was so impressed by this. Then a few late sleepers showed up at 8:58. I suspect they all knew the treat they were in for - which is why they were there in such crispy weather. I know it's why I was there.
I have learned that when you receive a few inches of very light and cold natural snow followed by a very cold night, you will be blessed with a wonderful skiing surface. And yesterday, the reality may have exceeded the high expectations. A check of the forecast shows that these primo conditions will be with us through the weekend, at which point - drat! - we will have to endure more new snow. Life's tough in the mountains . . .
