This Was Sparta?

In case you missed it, the Carnival/Krazy weekend rolled through successfully. Saturday was cloudy with temps hitting the low 30’s.  Not quite the vision of spring many people had in mind.  Spring waited quietly beyond the horizon line and then boldly planted the flag Sunday morning while legions of partiers slept. There wasn’t a single cloud to be found and the impossibly blue skies rained sunshine down on blindingly white slopes.  It was the very vision of spring skiing at its best. Spartacus

Apparently some Spartans got word that BOYNE would be a good place to live out their party version of Thermopylae.  Unfortunately, far too many revelers were carried home on their shields before they got a chance to partake in Sunday’s splendor.  I lovingly refer to the first wave of casualties as the “Butt Patrol”. They slid down from the on-hill party on their butts or riding their snowboards like sleds.  The second wave left between 10 and 11 Sunday morning.  Caravans of wounded soldiers rode four to a car, clutching pillows and gaping bleary-eyed thousand yard stares as the sun and snow harried their retreat.

At least one Spartan held strong through the Slush Cup. Johnny Spirit, of MSU fame was the final run and just managed to clear the pond. Hopefully he will go forward and inspire a new generation of party-goer who manages to keep a little powder dry in case of an epic ski day.
