Exercise Tall Tales

A BOYNE golf pro once asked me:
“What muscles do you think power the golf swing?”
The answer is “The core”.
That wasn’t my answer.  I have always tried to ignore my abs.  As a result, the rest of the world has tried to ignore my abs too.

Well, after years of ignore-ance I am heeding his advice and I’ve started doing Pilates floor routines. A couple weeks into it and I’m feeling great results in my golf game. My back has never been better and I am hitting the ball further with less effort.

Admitting my new routine might be a big mistake.  Pilates is regarded by backward sloths like my friends as a womanly realm. I’m sure I’ll get chided and there will be calls for my "man card"…untill I blow the tee ball by my pals a couple holes in a row.

“Hey Buck, what do you think about the WalMart they’re building here?

“Where?”

“RIGHT BETWEEN YOUR BALL AND MINE!!!”

"Nice.  Save it for the website Blogboy."

Just to be sure, here's a PGA Tour endorsement. Rich Beam had this to say about Pilates: "Since I've done Pilates, I'm much better looking and 4 feet taller"

Who can argue with that?

Solace Spa is offering Mat Pilates as well as Yoga and Strength and Conditioning classes - all of which have great golf implications. You can find the current schedule with all class offerings here.
Guys, it’s worth checking out. Pilates will strengthen the all-important muscles for a sound golf swing and you just might (stress the MIGHT) look better in a bikini too.  Okay- that was wrong...but you might end up ten feet tall!

Imagine how far you could hit it then.
