Tiger vs Phil.  Forget about it. The biggest and best story of this years Open has already happened. 

The winner of Golf Digest's "What would you shoot?" Contest toughed out Torrey Pines along with celebrity partners Matt Lauer, Justin Timberlake and Tony Romo. John Atkinson was the "lucky" guy. He won the contest and took on t.v. cameras and real tournament conditions sporting a 9 handicap and stage 5 inoperable lung cancer. 

He got to answer the questions we have all probably asked ourselves:
What do you think you could do-
From the tips?
With no gimmies?
With razor thin fairways and shin-deep rough?
On greens stimping 12+?
With T.V. cameras and mics recording everything? 

In my case the answer would be pretty similar to the question I ask myself about my car stalling while cutting it too close at the railway crossing. 

John managed the most triumphant 114 ever carded on television. NBC will air an hour long special about the attempt Sunday before tournament coverage.  Fire up the DVR and watch this for a little perspective.
