Frequently Asked Questions

When should I (or my child) arrive?
The number one reason is so that we can get everyone through the registration process and get the classes started on time. We strive to start every class promptly at 9:45. Getting everyone through registration early allow us to do that. Our instructors are ready to meet the kids by 9:30. We suggest that if you still have extra time before the lesson begins, that you enjoy a relaxing breakfast in the lodge.

When should I get my rental equipment?
It is important that you arrive to your lesson with your equipment ready to go. This will ensure that the lessons start on time. Allow at least 1 hour to get your rental equipment and boot up before your lessons begin.

What is your Cancellation Policy?
Notice of cancellation of at least 24 hours to scheduled lesson will result in no charge, however, morning of or no show is subject to full charge.

What are your Pick-Up and Check-Out Procedures?
Pick-up is at the Learning Center at 11:45 p.m. for morning lessons and 4:15 p.m. for afternoon or full day lessons. You and your child MUST go through our check-out process with matching ticket numbers! NO ONE will be allowed to leave with a child if they do not display the correct ticket number. NO CHILD WILL BE RELEASED ON THE HILL.  We request that a parent/guardian stay on the premises while the child is in lesson.

Where do we go for our lessons?

  • Boyne Highlands
    Skiers First time skiers meet in the meeting area by the carousel standing next to the cones with their respective ages on them. Skiers who know how to stop and turn will meat the wonder carpet for a ski off separating skiers by appropriate ability and ages.
    Riders Snowboards will meet in meeting area next to the snowboarding flags with the appropriate levels on them highlighted by the tall blue snowboarding flag
  • Boyne Mountain
    Skiers First time skiers meet in the Learning Center next to the Helga House standing next to the cones with their respective ages on them. Skiers who know how to stop and turn will meat at the wonder carpet for a ski off separating skiers by appropriate ability and ages.
    Riders Snowboarders will meet at the Blue snowboard Flag located next to the green power box in the meeting area according to the appropriate level.

Are reservations required?
Advanced reservation recommended for all lessons, clinics and workshops especially on weekends and holidays.

Do kids ski free?
Children 8 and under ski free if accompanied by a parent or enrolled in the Snow Sports Academy.

Are lift tickets included in my lesson?
Lift tickets are not included in camps, lessons, workshops or programs unless otherwise noted.

What should we wear?
You should be dressed appropriately for the day and weather. Dress in layers! Winter coats and snow pants are a must. Waterproof gloves are highly recommended. You may want to consider bringing an extra change of clothes if it is wet out. Doing so will make for a much more comfortable ride home.

Does my child need a helmet?
Child helmets are both available for rent and recommended. For more information about safely wearing helmets during winter activities please visit www.lidsonkids.org.

Will my child ride a chair lift?
Riding a chair lift depends on your child's level. If your child is Level III or higher they will certainly ride the chairlift. If your child is in a lower level and the class can turn and stop safely, the instructor may bring them up on the chairlift at the discretion of the instructor.

Do the classes take breaks?
This is at the discretion of the instructor. Breaks are not mandatory and sometimes depend on the weather, the group's ability, and on snow conditions.

Can I watch my child's lesson?
You may certainly watch your child's lesson, but we ask that you do so from a distance. On weekends, we ask that you watch from outside the Polar Playground fence
