The Difference Between Telemark and Cross Country Skiing

Telemark skiing is a type of skiing that utilizes the telemark turn.  The skis used for telemark skiing can be the same type of skis used for cross country skiing, where the boot is only connected to the ski at the toe.  This is why telemark skiing is often referred to as "free heel skiing". Telemark skiing is a form of downhill skiing, where cross country skiing is usually carried out on a gradually sloped terrain.
