Boyne Highlands & Boyne Mountain
Boyne Falls, Mich. (June 30, 2010) - Boyne Resorts' late founder, Everett Kircher once declared, "I'd rather be known as a great fly fisherman." Now, guests of Boyne Highlands and Boyne Mountain can experience and develop the hook of fly fishing for themselves. The resorts have partnered with Old AuSable Fly Shop of Grayling, Michigan to offer an introduction to fly fishing, free casting lessons and the chance to land a fish from each resort's trout filled pond.
The instructors and guides from Old AuSable Fly Shop are experts on how to drop a fly on the nose of a trout and they'll bring their expertise to guests of all ages during one-hour sessions offered at the resort ponds, which are stocked annually. During the sessions, participants learn to tie knots, which fly to use, how to cast, the history of fly fishing and the best places to fish. All equipment is provided.
Fly fishing casting lessons are available on Thursday evenings at Boyne Highlands and on Friday and Saturday evenings at Boyne Mountain. Sessions are offered twice per evening from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Interested guests can simply meet the guides at the pond just prior to either session's start time.
Guests of Boyne Highlands can also visit the Slopeside Lounge patio, adjacent to the pond, to enjoy wine tasting and live music from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursdays. At Boyne Mountain, the fun continues with complimentary hayrides until 9 p.m., plus a bonfire and s'mores on Fridays and a movie under the stars on Saturdays.
In addition to the free resort casting lessons, private instruction and half day and full day guided fishing trips are available and can be booked by calling Old AuSable Fly Shop at 989-348-3330.
