This weekend brings two days of racing to Boyne Highlands - Saturday racing includes the inaugural Family & Friends Race as well as the 25th Annual Ski League Championships. On Sunday we welcome World Cup style racing to Boyne Highlands with the Boyne Highlands "Chocolate Cake" Downhill.
Since its inception, the Downhill has built a reputation as Michigan's premier alpine racing event, drawing competitors from throughout the region. Some of you may be wondering where the "Chocolate Cake" portion of the event title comes from. This component has historical ties to the original days of racing when it was called simply "The Chocolate Cake Downhill." In the early years of the downhill, there were not any divisions and the men's and women's winners were awarded a chocolate cake. The tradition was re-introduced in 2011. Today, we award the men's and women's Open Division winners with chocolate cake. In addition, the top finishers in all other divisions now receive a chocolate cupcake!
