Tickets are now on sale for The Young Americans Summer Dinner Theatre! This year's show, "Celebrating Anniversary," is geared to help you find happiness, and to truly get to know these amazing young performers. To learn more about The Young Americans experience and this year's show we caught up with Angelo Santini, a former Young American and two-time Boyne Highlands cast member. Angelo is currently managing the Box Office for the Summer Dinner Theatre and standing by ready to take your call!
Q1: What inspired you to become a Young American?
Angelo: I grew up watching The Young Americans at Boyne Highlands every summer. I was always so enraptured by their energy and talent. I knew one day I wanted to give people the joy they had given me. So I auditioned after an outreach show and was accepted.
Q2: The Dinner Theatre is one part of The Young American mission; how do the The Young Americans work to inspire people around the world?
Angelo: Yes, Boyne Highlands Dinner Theatre is only one portion of what The Young Americans do. Most of the projects we do involve music outreach. The Young Americans travel all over the world advocating to keep music in schools, and also to help kids develop confidence and work ethic that they can apply to everything in their lives. It's incredible to work with a kid during a three day workshop on the international music outreach tours and see the transformation from the first day to the show on the third day.
Q3: What is your greatest memory/most rewarding moment of your time on tour?
Angelo: For me personally, my favorite memory of an international outreach tour was working with kids in Japan affected directly by the tsunami and earthquake that happened on March 11, 2011. Working with children who have lost everything, but can have the resilience to rebuild their lives and feel joy towards others was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
Q4: What years where you on the Dinner Theatre cast and what are your favorite memories of performing at Boyne Highlands?
Angelo: I was on the Dinner Theatre cast in 2011 and 2012. Picking just one memory would be impossible! Boyne Highlands is magical from my Young American standpoint. I got to do what I loved every single night, with my best friends in the world. Every night was an unforgettable experience and we loved every minute.
Q5: What advice would you give to someone who dreams of being a Young American?
Angelo: Don't ever give up! Being a Young American is hard. But it's the most rewarding experience of my life so far. I would advise to remember to always be open to learning new things, and always give 100%. Don't be afraid to be yourself.
Q6: We've heard a lot of a lot of excitement surrounding this year's cast and show, can you tell us a little bit about the show and why you are so excited to see it?
Angelo: This year's cast is one of the most dynamic groups of people you can imagine - big personalities, huge talent, and incredible hearts! I don't want to give the show away, but trust me you're definitely not going to want to miss it. There's something for everybody.
Q7: What are this summer's show dates and why should people get their tickets today?
Angelo: This year show opens on June 27 and runs until August 23 every night, except Sundays. Definitely reserve your spot today! Nights are filling up FAST and seating is based on a first call, first table basis!
