Signs of fall are all around us in northern Michigan, and over the past few days the autumn colors have really begun to pop with brilliant shades of red, yellow and orange. Now is the time to grab your family or a couple of friends and plan your perfect weekend fall day. If I were planning the perfect fall day, this is what I'd do! (In fact, you may see me around!)
Start your day by calling the Adventure Center to reserve your place on the afternoon fall color Horseback Ride. After you've taken care of business, head out for a picturesque drive through M119's iconic Tunnel of Trees. You'll be blown away as you embark on this leisurely drive how the fall foliage just wraps you up like a warm sweater. Stop to refill your coffee at the quaint Good Hart General Store before making your way back to the resort.
Once you're back, grab a seat at the Slopeside Lounge and fuel up for an afternoon of adventure. A mouthwatering Highlands Burger or the Asian Grilled Chicken Salad piled high with mandarin oranges and grilled chicken are sure to satisfy you.
Next, head over to the Equestrian Center to saddle up for your 1pm color ride. For the next hour and a half, our knowledgable guides will lead you to top of the mountain for absolutely breaktaking views of the color exploding across the valley, all the way to Lake Michigan. There's no better way to take in the fall colors!
Throughout the fall, the area's fantastic farm markets host fall festivals - and that's where we're headed next. Two of my favorites are Bill's Farm Market in Petoskey and Pond Hill Farm in Harbor Springs. Both offer a plethora of family-friendly activities, including pumpkins, hayrides, cider and donuts and so much more. At Pond Hill Farm you can even test your strength with the squash rocket or pumpkin smashing!
I can't think of a better way to wrap up your action-packed fall afternoon than with a free scenic chairlift ride for one more look at the fall colors, followed by cozying up around the bonfire and toasting marshmallows for s'mores as the cool fall air sets in.
It seems like winter is right around the corner, but there's still time to visit us in Harbor Springs and make Boyne Highlands Resort your home base to enjoy the perfect "up north" fall day.◂ Return to News & Updates
