Memorial Weekend Vacation: Why you should spend it in northern Michigan

It's hard to believe but Memorial Day is only two weeks away! With days passing fast it's time to slow them down with a family vacation. Find the best family vacation in northern Michigan by spending Memorial Day Weekend enjoying the great outdoors, festivals, a classic small town parade and so much more.

Start by staying where the fun times are endless

Kick off a long weekend of fun by staying at Boyne Highlands Resort and taking part in activities for the whole family. For many, Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer and we have all the early season activities to make it an unforgettable one.

  • Championship Golf

All four of the Boyne Highlands courses are open and ready for you to drive it down the fairway. Our challenging and award-winning courses are each carefully designed to complement its breathtaking northern Michigan surroundings. Take the fun up a notch by renting a GolfBoard to cruise the courses or schedule a time to improve your golf swing with GEARS Golf technology.

Soak up all northern Michigan nature has to offer by experiencing it from many different views. Fly between tree tops on the zipline, journey on horseback through the quintessential northern Michigan hardwoods, catch air in the mountain bike park or zoom around the resort on Segways. All offer a unique view to capture your surroundings.

  • Tranquil relaxation at The Spa

Be sure to take some time for yourself and reach full relaxation at The Spa at Boyne Highlands. Refresh you mind and body with the seasonal Citrus Sense-ation. Enjoy a Clementine Massage, Ruby Red Grapefruit Manicure or Pedicure or a facial to usher you to complete tranquility.

Area festivals are perfect for a family day trip

The location of Boyne Highlands puts you right in the center of all the great area Memorial Day events and festivals. Mackinaw Island, Pellston, Petoskey and Harbor Springs are all short drives away offering several ways to spend your day.

Beginning Thursday, May 26 through Monday, May 30 the Pellston Memorial Festival will be hosting daily events such as an arts and crafts show, car show and cruise, live entertainment and more. Boyne Highlands will make an appearance Friday as we participate in the Rib and Chili Cook-off!

Get active on Memorial Day by taking part in the Harbor Springs 5K run/walk that begins at the waterfront. Next, line the streets for the parade starting at 10am that culminates at Zorn Park for a service that includes a gun salute, speech and music. The Village of Bay Harbor will also have a weekend full of events like the weekend sidewalk sales and Knot Just a Beer and Wine Festival.

  • Day Trip to Mackinac Island

Take part in the longest running free Memorial Day historical program in the U.S. at Colonial Fort Michilmackinac. More than 400 cast members take part in this three-day pageant that brings to life the 1763 Fort Michilimackinac battle between the French, British and Native Americans. A highlight of the weekend is the Memorial Day parade through the streets of Mackinaw City that includes more than 100 band, acts and floats.

With all these great activities and more your family is sure to have an unforgettable Memorial Day Weekend. Find the right package to fit all your lodging and adventure needs here. We look forward to seeing you!
