Summertime Mountain Biking Adventure

Warm weather has taken over northern Michigan allowing green to blanket, what used to be, the snow covered slopes. The chairlifts are still spinning though, transporting adventurers and thrill seekers to the top for an unforgettable two-wheel experience down one of the Midwest's Best Bike Parks. Mountain bikers of all levels come to take part in the excitement of the climbs, descents, jumps and features offered across our many trails.

Cross Country Trails

Journey through nearly 15 miles of cross country mountain bike trails that offer exhilarating climbs and descents for experts and beginners. The Yellow Loop is the easiest; the wide, mostly downhill trail offers space for easier maneuvering to really allow you to get comfortable. The loop is only 2.5 miles long making it a great loop for beginners. When moving up from the Yellow Loop, a great option would be the Red Loop. A short but sweet 1.5 miles that is mellow while giving you a taste of what the more advanced trails are like. For those who are seeking more of a challenge, the Blue Loop is for you. Five miles of single-track adventure with climbs and descents all worth the while. The Orange, Black, Green and White loops are each 2 miles or less offering their own purposes of intense climbing, shortcuts to other trails or as a warm up before your main ride.

Freeride Trails

If the cross country trails leave you wanting more of a thrill head over to our freeride trails. These downhill trails are filled with wooden features, jumps and narrow single tracks sure to get the adrenaline pumping. There are a total of 13 trails that make up the freeride section of our mountain bike trails. It is important to know your skill level as these are set aside for experts only. These trails still have a variety of skill levels within them as you become more advanced and confident in your riding. A good starting point on the freeride trails is Fun Run. This is an easier trail that includes a few small jumps for practice and little steep terrain. If you are an experienced biker looking for a challenge, then The Trooper is for you. Thrill seekers will find this trail at the top of their list as it offers several large jumps and very tight, technical terrain. Whatever level you are seeking, it's right here.

Skills Park

Are you brand new to mountain biking? Check out our skills park, filled with freeride and downhill elements to practice your skills before taking it out to the trails. It's important to know your limits and feel comfortable before taking it up a notch. The Skills Park is here to help you hone your skills and safely work your way up.

Beyond Boyne Highlands

Just up the road from the resort is a trailhead for mountain bikers on the North Country Trail. This segment of the trail goes from Kipp Road to Van Road for a total of 15.5 miles. It is a single track with a mile-long climb at the beginning followed by a rollercoaster of steep climbs and descents. This trail is meant for intermediate riders. For a more relaxing ride to start up a day or wind down an evening check out the Little Traverse Wheelway. The trail in its entirety stretches from Charlevoix to Harbor Springs along a 26-mile paved route. Enjoy a short ride into town for an ice cream cone, views of sparkling Little Traverse Bay and other beautiful sights.

Whether you are a mountain biking novice or expert, you'll find there's something for everyone. Artfully maneuvering through single tracks, taking thrilling jumps or cruising through the climbs and descents can all be found at Boyne Highlands Resort. Plan your next biking trip here.
