Yoga Teacher Training Certification

Solace Institute

This program allows you a chance to immerse yourself in a 28 day discovery of personal growth through yoga.  Whether you are seeking a teaching career, or simply exploration into personal awareness, health, and balance; this course will fulfill your desires.

The premiere yoga studio of northern Michigan, Union Yoga, has chosen to host this Yoga Teacher training at Solace Spa.  Sean Handler, Michigan Director of Spas for Boyne Resorts explains, "Sandra Carden and Union Yoga set the bar for yoga instruction.  Combine the yoga training with the 5000 acre sanctuary of Solace Spa, and you end up with the perfect setting for learning and yoga study." Self-awareness is self-transcendence. We can only transcend that which we understand, and question. Clarity through yoga is self-inquiry and understanding of yourself- how you have been conditioned to think, act, move, and grow, as a manifested spiritual entity. Through UNION/YOGA Teacher Certification, you will learn about your edges and shadows, strengths and stops.  This evolving inquiry becomes your greatest advantage in being an exceptional teacher of yoga. It begins at home. When you are present to see your self, in all facets of your unique expression, you are better equipped to see and guide others.  This course will benefit anyone desiring personal growth and in-depth experiential revelation of yoga, whether seeking a teaching career, or not.UNION/YOGA Teacher Certification is approved by Yoga Alliance, and licensed by the State of Michigan. About us - Who we are?

Master Instructor, Sandra Carden, ERYT 500. Sandra Carden's yoga experience has embraced a wide range of teachers and traditions, in a way that is best described by philosopher Ken Wilber as "to enfold and transcend." Her varied Christian influences throughout early childhood allowed her to appreciate, in the early 1970s, the inclusive teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda. This non-dogmatic appreciation of the many facets of yoga was affirmed in her tutelage under Joel Kramer, and through the writings of J. Krishnamurti. At its inaugural session in 1974, Sandra and Field Carden attended the Naropa Institute, to study yoga philosophy under Ram Dass, and Buddhism under Chogyam Trungpa, Rinpoche. Here she was schooled in Vipassana meditation. From these early influences, Sandra developed a strong commitment to embracing diversity within the wider yoga tradition.
Early on, Sandra studied with senior teachers of the Iyengar lineage. In the 1980s, she sought and embraced "meditation in motion," through the Kripalu movement, as well as with outstanding senior teachers of the Ashtanga system and other vinyasa styles. The 1990s brought a transcendent shift toward more therapeutic avenues of yoga, including her certification in Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy and Svaroopa Yoga. Viniyoga and Ayurvedic studies were important additional influences. The first decade of the 21st century has brought deeper study of yoga history, philosophy and literature through Georg Feuerstein, Ph.D., at Sonoma State University, and with Cynthia Snodgrass, M.div., of the American Sanskrit Institute. Sandra Carden graduated Summa Cum Laude from Grand Valley State University, with a thesis exploring The Human Quest for Liberation.
To "embrace and transcend" is to take in deeply, embracing the experience as fuel to transform inclusively and from within, as the sphere of understanding widens. In that way, UNION/YOGA is still growing, unfolding, and transcending, as we all are. Reb Andrews, RYT 500, is a graduate of both the UNION/YOGA 200-Hour and 500-Hour Teacher Certification programs, instructed by Sandra Carden. Reb's yoga philosophy is "it is a personal and individual practice, and as a teacher I am simply the guide. I believe practicing helps us to discover our strengths and weaknesses, finding compassion for ourselves and others and drawing on what we learn in yoga and taking it out into our daily lives. The union of mind, body and spirit creates strength and energy while sustaining peace and calm, raising spiritual awareness of self and our universal connection with each other and the environment where we live." Reb is a Reiki instructor, and was certified by Reiki Master Sharon Baker. She is also a student of Tibetan Meditation through the Jewel Heart Tibetan Buddhist Center of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Reb teaches classes and workshops in Boyne City, Michigan. You will find Reb's constant strength, and calming energy supportive and enriching on your UYTT 200 journey.
Dr. Maureen Mead, MD, RYT 500, is a graduate of both the UNION/YOGA 200-Hour and 500-Hour Teacher Certification programs, instructed by Sandra Carden. Maureen brings 20 years of experience as an Emergency Physician, and is currently practicing at Alpena Regional Medical Center. Maureen will teach the Anatomy segment required for UYTT 200 certification. You will love Maureen's emphasis on mind, body, spirit and her contagious laugh and abounding energy!
