Morelfest Wine & Dine

Each May, Boyne City fills with hundreds of mushroom lovers from around the country, all seeking that elusive delicacy - the magnificent morel.  Found in nearby woods and clearings, morels are favored by those who know their 'shrooms.

As part of the Annual National Morel Mushroom Festival, Boyne Mountain hosts the Morelfest "Wine & Dine" on Friday, May 15.  The event takes place at the Beach House restaurant on Deer Lake.  This year, the event offers two seatings to accommodate the growing popularity of the event.  The first seating is from 5:30 - 7:30pm and the second is 8 - 9:30pm.

Guests are treated to gourmet hors d'oeuvres prepared by the Boyne Mountain culinary team paired with fine wines from Bayside Beverage.  Complimentary transportation provided by Charlevoix County Transit and the Boyne Area Chamber is offered from Veteran's Park in Boyne City to the Beach House Restaurant leaving at 5:15pm and returning at 7:30pm to Veteran's Park.

  • Morel Ragout Crostini: Sautéed morels, caramelized ramps, Boursin cheese, fresh thyme and a hint of sherry wine
  • Morel mushroom soup: Leek crème fraiche, fried parsnip chips
  • Mushroom gnocchi: Sautéed morels, ramps, garlic cream sauce
  • Pasta: Pappardelle noodles, morels, ramps, confit garlic, mushroom garlic cream
  • Scallop: Pan seared scallop, sweet pea puree, morel mushroom and bacon ragout, truffle oil

Boyne City hosts the National Morel Mushroom Festival and the Boyne Valley Lions' National Morel Mushroom Hunt each year, and for a few short days, everything is all about mushrooms.  Restaurants prepare exotic, morel-laden entrees, local songsters sing of the morel, secret hunting places and recipes are shared, and everybody goes on the mushroom hunt.  A good year can yield thousands of the mouth-watering treats.  Morels can be tasted at the Taste of Morels and the festival has fun for all ages with a carnival, craft show, live entertainment and morel-themed seminars.  For more information on the National Morel Mushroom Festival, please visit
