New Businesses Open in Boyne Mountain's Village

Two new businesses join the Village at Boyne Mountain this month, Forty Acres Tavern and The North Face Store.

Forty Acres Tavern is the newest dining destination located in the former Pierson's Grille & Spirits.  The restaurant celebrated its launch on Saturday, Dec. 5.  Forty Acres Tavern is equal parts watering hole and refueling station satisfying with a selection of spirits and elevated American pub fare.  The menu takes traditional favorites and adds a fresh and innovative spin.

The tavern offers a great selection of appetizers and appeals to sharing with dishes like calamari with mango relish and roasted jalapeno aioli, three-cheese grilled artichoke dip, and wings with a Michigan maple-sriracha glaze.  Sandwiches are generously portioned for refueling from a morning on the slopes. Try signatures like The Senator with corned beef, pastrami, Muenster, watermelon kraut, and sweet chili dressing on light rye, the Tavern Burger with cherrywood smoked bacon, and the panko breaded Chicken Sandwich with celery slaw, prosciutto, spicy pickle, and sriracha-lemon aioli on a brioche bun.  Forty Acres Tavern also offers a great selection of salads and soups, a kids menu and desserts like the Ghirardelli Fudge Brownie.  Entrée offerings include ribs, bacon-wrapped bison and beef meatloaf, New York strip, and whitefish, among others.

The bar features 40 beers (a beer for every acre), an array of coffee drinks, Bloody Marys, cocktails, wine, and martinis.

The name, Forty Acres Tavern, pays tribute to Boyne Mountain's first 40 acres.  In 1947, after cutting his teeth on Otsego Ski Club's 250 vertical-foot slope, founder Everett Kircher, was convinced that Michigan was ready for more. So, that summer, accompanied by two friends and topographical maps, Kircher identified his mark: a 1,150-foot rise with more than 500 feet of vertical. But where Kircher saw pure potential, the owner of the property, a Michigan senator and Boyne Falls logger named William Pearson, saw folly.  Fortunately, Senator Pearson had a sense of humor and his response is now the stuff of Boyne legend: "Anyone damn-fool enough to want to build a ski hill, well...I'll give you the property." When the details were ironed out, the Senator delivered, and Kircher paid just $1 for what would become Boyne Mountain's first 40 acres.

Forty Acres Tavern is open Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

In time for holiday shopping, The North Face Store is slated to open on Saturday, Dec. 19, and is a one-stop shop for all your gear essentials from the slopes to an evening of après ski.  Carrying a huge selection of men's, women's and juniors clothing and outerwear, as well as footwear and backpacks, The North Face Store will change offerings seasonally.  Through the holidays, the store will be open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.  Regular hours of operation take effect on Jan. 4.

Forty Acres Tavern and The North Face Store join six other businesses operating in the Village - Boyne Country Sports, Mountain Express Deli & Provisions, Boyne Outfitters, Made in Michigan, Kilwins, and Spielladen Toy & Candy.   For more information, visit or call 866.759.1472.
