Lynsey Dyer, professional skier, SheJumps co-founder, filmmaker, TV host, mentor, action sports model and all around adventurer, is coming to Boyne Mountain for the resort's annual Skitoberfest celebration on Saturday, Oct. 3. Dyer will speak during the Winter Expo at 2 p.m. and sign autographs afterwards.
Dyer is one of the best freestyle and big mountain skiers in the world winning every big mountain competition she's ever entered. She's participated in films produced by Teton Gravity Research, Warren Miller, Sherpa's Cinema, among others, and been awarded Female Skier of the Year by Powder magazine.
In 2006, Dyer co-founded SheJumps, an organization dedicated to increasing women's participation in the outdoors. She also recently wrapped production on the first community driven all female big mountain ski film, Pretty Faces. The film serves as a source of inspiration for women who define themselves in the outdoors. Attendees of the Winter Expo can watch a showing of Pretty Faces at the event.
The Winter Expo is hosted by Olympian and U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame inductee, Cary Adgate, and takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the resort's Civic Center. The Expo also features ski and snowboard gear, tuning demonstrations, a ski swap benefiting the Boyne City ski teams, and giveaways.
Outdoors at Skitoberfest, revelers can enjoy the best of fall in an Oktoberfest-style setting with an array of entertainment. The event comes alive with acrobatics, fire breathing performances, and activities galore from noon to 6 p.m. More than 100 varieties of Michigan beers, wines, spirits, foods and treats are available for tastings. Skitoberfest also offers live street theatre and performances, free scenic chairlift rides, chalk art, family movie, and hayrides.
Kids can create works of art while noshing cookies with Cookies & Canvas, and delight in plenty of fun in the Kids' Zone including a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, Northwoods Soda root beer and soda garden, and more.
New this year, kids and adults alike can test their skills with the Pond Pedal, a singletrack set over a pond, adding crashes and costumes to the amusement. Prizes are awarded for the fastest time across, best costume, and best crash.
The on-snow Rail Jam, an annual crowd pleaser, takes place from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Registration is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Expo.
Event goers can watch the 80s street dance FAME performed by the Boyne City High School drama department at 4 p.m., join the Pray for Snow Bonfire with s'mores from 5-6 p.m., and spectate or participate in a parade from 6-7 p.m.
