An Up North Fourth

Category: Resort

If you have never experienced a 4th of July up north, than you are missing out. I have spent the holiday in many towns throughout the U.S.A. and nothing compares to the charm of northern Michigan.

If you crave a heartwarming parade, you will find one in Boyne City, Petoskey, and Harbor Springs. The smiles are as universal as the cheers. The whole family will enjoy the variety and the sincerity that marches down the main street. A place where people set their chairs and blankets out the day before, not thinking twice about losing them. It's everything you would expect from a traditional parade, sirens and all.

Make sure you hear the Petoskey Steel Drum Band while visiting. Their performances are so vibrant and set the tone for the holiday. You can find them in Bay Harbor the evening of July 3 and in Petoskey's parade at 6pm on Friday.

There will be art and craft fairs, rubber duck races, beer tastings, wine samplings, and more - depending on what city you are in - to keep you entertained throughout the day. Visit the beach, take a boat ride, or have a campfire with friends. There are so many wonderful and beautiful things to see and do on this holiday weekend.

Put the kids down for a late nap because you do not want to miss a firework display over the bay. The fireworks never seem to end, each town takes their turn lighting off their fiery displays. This is the perfect time to snuggle in a little closer to your loved ones and reflect how fortunate we are to celebrate our freedoms in such a spectacular place.

Happy 4th of July!
