Once upon a time...ok, so you know it's going to be a love story when it starts like this. Well, that is exactly what this is, a lovely story that I just had to share with all of you. So here we go again...
Once upon a time there was a guy named Cody who was in search of a unique way to propose to his girlfriend, Kasey, of five years. So he did what any other guy would do...he searched the internet. Then he remembered something cool from his last ski trip at Boyne Mountain, a Groomer Ride. Cody was pretty sure that he had found the way to ask Kasey for her hand in marriage, so he sent out his first Facebook message to the resort inquiring about a groomer proposal that very day.
That's where I come in. Cody was directed to me for help and of course, I was more than excited to be a part of such a big moment. We went through the logistics of the ride, accomodating two adults, the timing, and the evening he planned to do it. Our Mountain Operations Director made sure the groomer driver was aware of the special circumstance and he planned a special stop atop Hemlock where I would be waiting with my camera.
The evening of, what I began to affectionately call the Groomer Proposal, arrived and it coudn't have been more spectacular. Fresh snow had fallen throughout the day and a full moon was rising in the clear night sky. As I sat atop Hemlock, I could see the passengers loading into the groomers below. It was time. As the snowcats approached the top, one veered off and parked. The couple got out and then it happened. I don't need to explain much, the picture above tells it all. In Cody's words, "Kasey was pretty darn shocked. She was more shocked than I thought she would be, but I guess I've been building this one moment up in my head for the last four months. It was insta-tears up there. I can never be more grateful for Boyne Mountain accomodating us and providing us with those great pictures."
See, I told you it was lovely. And there's more! After we all cried happy tears (yes, I cried too) and they enjoyed the rest of their Groomer Ride, Cody took Casey to dinner at Stein Eriksen's where their parents, sibling, and friend were all waiting to surprise and congratulate the newly engaged couple!
A perfect evening and the perfect way to start the New Year!
Congrats to Cody and Kasey on behalf of all Boyne Mountain Resort, we look forward to seeing you both for many years to come.
