Stepping off of a platform knowing that you are about to be flying through the trees at up to 25mph will make most people nervous. I am certainly no exception to this tendency. I was amazed however, at how quickly you can overcome these nerves when flying with the highly trained staff of the Adventure Center. Inspiring confidence through clarity of direction and activity expertise, the Adventure Center Staff is capable of getting just about anybody to face their fears and create memories that will last a lifetime.
Meeting in the Adventure Center for our 3:30 Zipline Adventure Tour, we found the harnesses and helmets already laid out on the floor waiting for us. This was a process that I was dreading as harnesses can be awkward and tough to figure out, but that was not the case! We were directed into our harnesses like a well-oiled machine, and did most of our own adjusting. Once everyone had donned our harnesses and helmets, we made our way over to the base of the Hemlock Chairlift. On a side note- The lift is a very old two-seater chair that meanders up the slope where you can grab dinner at the Eagles Nest and enjoy the views of our resort and the Boyne Falls area, just saying, this would make for a great date night, guys...
Getting back on track, our group unloaded at the top of the lift, snapped a few quick photos, and made our way over to the first line. The adventure officially kicked off right behind the Eagles Nest by flying over the Pierson trail to the woods on the opposite side of the valley. Zip liners would wait for their turn to step up onto the platform, get clipped onto the line by an employee, wait for the "woo" and then jump off and fly to the landing station. After hiking about 100 feet, we were looking at the start of the next line.
Our guides had us working on pushing our comfort levels while flying right from the get-go. First by hanging onto our lanyards, the yellow straps connecting you to the cable with one hand, then by going hands free, flying upside down after that, then jumping right into an inverted pose while flying over Cold Springs. Eventually we even did a front flip off of the platform into our flying position. The progression of tricks helped the riders to gain confidence, develop their body awareness while operating in a foreign state, and have a downright awesome time!
All of the maneuvers and tricks that we worked on came into play on the final line- the Twin Zip! Starting above the Boynehof parking lot and flying 780 feet over the road, lawn, pond, and fountain to the platform in between the Adventure Center and the Mountain Grand Lodge. Rather than zipping across the line taking the views in by yourself, line up next to your competition on the start platform and RACE on the Twin Zip as both lines run parallel to the finish platform.
Our full Adventure Tour took about two hours to complete and covered 10 different lines offering fun challenges and loads of opportunities for your next profile picture. If you're on more of a time crunch, enjoy making two passes on just the Twin Zip and race your friends!
The Adventure Center fosters confidence inspiring experiences and promotes a healthy lifestyle unique to our Northern Michigan atmosphere. Step in and see how many memories you can create in one action-packed visit to Boyne Mountain Resort!
Until next time,
