This has been a slightly tricky Winter, although all of the rain and unseasonably mild temperatures couldn't keep us from having an incredible time celebrating the snow.
Yes, it is true that Mother Nature was not really feeling Winter this year. Maybe after some cold Februarys she decided to keep Michigan cozy for a season. Maybe she was on vacation in the tropics and left it up to Spring and Fall to split the difference. Either way, Old Man Winter found a way to answer our snow dances, and deliver the good stuff! We were teased very early on by a nice fluffy dump of about four inches, but that melted quickly and we did not see snow again for a little while. December brought a dusting here and there, but once we flipped the calendars to 2016, it was game on! We received 50 inches and plenty of snowmaking temperatures in January allowing us to really get things going.
After getting underway and properly snow-covered, the skiing and snowboarding conditions were amazing. All of the variables aligned numerous times this winter for us to provide HERO snow - a surface that makes for effortless turning and all of the speed a person could want! Despite the challenges, our operations teams worked their magic to ensure that our slopes were not only covered in snow for skiing and riding, but also that they were consistently dressed in the finest corduroy! Unless of course the corduroy was covered in fresh powder, which is ALWAYS a reason to celebrate!
Fast forward to today, Friday, April 15, 2016 - temperatures are expected to reach into the 60's with abundant sunshine all day long. Last year, April 12 was our final day on the slopes, and we are proud to reach beyond that point this season! We are gliding on about 55 acres of skiable surface tomorrow, and with temperatures expected in the mid-70's, don't forget your sunscreen! That's right, folks we will be basking in the sunshine working on our tans while playing with gravity for the last time this season. In addition to our open trails tomorrow and Sunday, we will also be featuring our Ramshead Terrain Park, the LAST remaining park in the Lower Peninsula.
While you are out on the slopes this weekend, please join me in thanking all of those who have made this weekend and this season possible. We made the absolute best of a difficult Winter, rolled with the punches, and are not only still standing, we are still skiing and riding for one more weekend.
See you on the slopes!
