The Inside Scoop on Golf at Boyne Mountain

Can't get enough golf? Neither can we! Catch the scoop from Casey Powers, our Head Golf Professional at Boyne Mountain Resort, for his inside opinion about this summer thus far, and what is yet to come.

How has the summer season been going at Boyne Mountain?

CP: The golf season has been fantastic. Mother nature has cooperated beautifully with many perfect, sunny blue bird days. A few strategic rain showers and storms to keep everything green and alive has helped. The golf courses have been in incredible shape all season.

We noticed that while out on the course throughout the season. What's the secret?

CP: Well that is a kudos to our two golf course superintendents, Mark Skop and Chris Burnett.  Those guys, along with their crew, do an amazing job keeping our facilities looking great.  We are also blessed to live in an area with plenty of water to cool and refresh the grass.

What is your favorite hole on The Alpine? The Monument? Why?

CP: Number 12 on The Alpine is my favorite hole on property. It is a reachable par 5 (with a good tee shot). I like the possibility of scoring well on it, but it also has the best view on the property. It overlooks the Jordan Valley to the left and Deer Lake on the right. Number 3 on The Monument used to be my favorite hole. It is a downhill par 3 with a great view from the tee - however, the new tee boxes on 18 have made it my favorite on The Monument. The new tee boxes have a beautiful view over Deer Lake and our entire practice facilities, as well as a view of the island green from the tee.

How does the rest of the season look?

CP: With the Tournament of Champions behind us, we set our cruise control mode through the end of the season. Once school is back in session, our mid-week traffic settles down a little, but our weekends pick right back up. We will be starting our aeration processes sometime in mid-September. I hate to even think about it, but just want to make sure it is out there: We will be closing the Monument on October 2nd, and the Alpine on October 16th.

We are still looking at a lot of August, all of September, and a little more time in October. If this weather keeps up, we will have no problem squeezing in a whole lot more golf before the final bell!

See you on the course!
