BOYNE is dedicated to providing outstanding outdoor recreation to today's visitors and also future generations who visit northern Michigan seeking the same natural beauty and great activities that we love and hold dear to our hearts.  We have committed to taking steps to protect our land, water and air by following greener business practices and taking on numerous environmental initiatives.  Following is an abbreviated list of practices we have implemented.  Additional efforts are ongoing to further BOYNE's commitment to protect our most precious resource, the environment.

Bay Harbor, MI

  • Green Lodging Michigan certified 
  • All new light bulbs are energy efficient compact fluorescent bulbs and/or LED lights
  • In-room water conservation programs for re-use of towels and linens
  • No idle policy for company vehicles
  • Use of low-flow shower heads and faucets
  • All public buildings are smoke-free
  • Accommodations and common areas are set to energy efficient settings
  • Recycling program - aluminum, plastic, clear and colored glass, paper and cardboard
  • Timers installed on patio lights
  • Outdoor pool boilers are turned off when ambient pool temperature reaches 80 degrees during the day
  • Shuttle service provided
  • Computers are turned off when not in use
  • All Guestrooms and public areas smoke-free.
  • Marriott "Green Meeting" options for our conference, meeting and social groups
  • When possible, purchase locally-produced and/or organic foods

Boyne Highlands Resort

  • Green Lodging Michigan certified
  • All new light bulbs are energy efficient compact fluorescent bulbs and/or LED lights
  • In-room water conservation programs for re-use of towels and linens and low-flow shower heads
  • Cleaning products are purchased in bulk and have been switched to those offering a dispensing system compared to individual, disposable bottles
  • Environmentally-sensitive cleaning products are used
  • Group event programs are emailed instead of hard mailed unless requested otherwise
  • Melamine plastic plate ware and metal silverware is used in the Boyne Highlands Cafeteria to reduce waste
  • Recycling of aluminum cans and plastic in all kitchens
  • Recycling bins available in common areas and convention spaces for clear and green glass, metal, plastic and paper products
  • Updated HVAC system is more efficient in heating and cooling in Main Lodge hotel rooms/suites
  • Accommodations and common areas are set to energy efficient settings
  • All public buildings are smoke-free
  • Snowmaking fleet includes 113 Boyne Low-E  fan guns that are 40% more efficient than standard models
  • No idle policy for company vehicles including snowmobiles and snowcats

Boyne Mountain Resort

  • Green Lodging Michigan certified
  • 2010 Recycler of the Year, Business Award  - Charlevoix County Recycling Program
  • All new light bulbs are energy efficient compact fluorescent bulbs and/or LED lights
  • Recycling of all corrugated cardboard and launch of office paper recycling program
  • No idle policy for company vehicles including snowmobiles and snowcats
  • Use of hydroelectricity from the Boyne River (300kw)
  • Snowmaking fleet includes 117 Boyne Low-E fan guns that are 40% more efficient than standard models
  • Use of low-flow shower heads and faucets
  • In-room water conservation programs for re-use of towels and linens
  • Motion detectors and timers reduce energy consumption in storage areas
  • All public buildings are smoke-free
  • Environmentally-sensitive cleaning products are used
  • All laundry products are non phosphorus and the use of ozone is used to reduce wash temperature and water usage
  • Accommodations and common areas are set to energy efficient settings
  • Waste food is transferred to and recycled by local farmers
  • Water used by A/C system is recycled as irrigation water
  • All pool water from Avalanche Bay is recycled as Irrigation water
  • Cleaning products are purchased in bulk, allowing re-use of individual bottles
